Four Months

It's been nearly four months and we're settling into a married-life routine. Becca's got a job at a bakery in Puyallup (lots o' carbs, cookies, and other goodies for Joel!). She loves it, and it's been an easy transition for her, since she cooks and bakes so much.

Joel has a new job too. Tired of the commute to Redmond, and not satisfied with the apartments available to us up north, he found a job in Tacoma as a Data Analyst. He's getting settled in with a great group of people and some challenging work.

Thanks for all the prayers and support these last few months. We're happy, healthy, and doing well. A friend from church asked what our biggest argument has been so far and the only thing we could come up with is the way we fold our socks (Joel=match the pair and fold in half; Becca=fold the tops down). That is such a blessing, since we know that hard times will eventually come.

But if we have a nice, quiet, boring life together, I don't think either of us will complain.

Home, Sweet Home

After getting settled in to this cozy duplex, we're beginning the search for a new apartment.

I know it sounds a bit crazy to be moving so quickly after getting married, but what's crazier still is Joel's commute to work. Two hours each way, plus a full day's work. And he still has to come home and entertain me!

I'm starting to like the "housewife" role. The house is clean, the laundry done, the errands run, and dinner on the table every night. Joel's not quite sure what to do with me. The other night he said, "Gee, Becca, I'm not sure what to do around here. It's like having a maid." I quickly reminded him that it could also be like, uh, having a wife? We had a good laugh about that one. He made me promise that we'd split up the housework when I get a job. And of course I didn't say no. But for right now, it's a distribution of responsibility that is fair to both sides.

Joel and Becca's Prayer List:

*Becca needs a (good/fun/stable) job
*Joel and Becca need a (good/clean/quiet/safe) apartment closer to Joel's work (Bellevue or Renton)
*The indecisive couple needs to pick out their wedding photos to be printed

2 Weeks

Well, we've been married two whole weeks! It's been fantastic. Everything is coming together: moving my stuff in, getting our stuff organized, looking at pictures, biking, etc. I never knew that even the simple things, like running errands or watching TV before bed, could be so fun. I look forward to every day with Joel, whether we're too busy to sit down or too lazy to get up.

Last Thursday was Joel's birthday, so we had a BBQ over the weekend to celebrate. Everyone thought we were crazy: two weeks married and already inviting a houseful of company over. But it was a blast. It was a great reminder of all the family and friends we have supporting us and encouraging us as we start our life together.

I thought that getting married would turn our lives upside down. And in a lot of ways it has. But the most important pieces (Joel and myself) have proven to be the most constant in this whirlwind of activity.
